Empower your community members to play a more active role in keeping their neighborhoods safe.

We have exciting news for Neighbors Public Safety Service (NPSS) agencies who leverage Request For Assistance. Ring and Axon have partnered to create an Open Request portal that enables evidence requests and sharing that is secure, transparent, accountable, and maintains the chain of custody.

What does this mean? The process for requesting video evidence from Ring doorbell customers will now be more streamlined, transparent, and forensically sound. Evidence requests go directly to a Ring camera owner’s app on their phone, allowing them to accept or deny the request for evidence. If they accept, they will select the evidence they want to share and it will be loaded directly into Axon Evidence, ensuring the original evidence file is loaded and chain of custody is monitored and tracked from capture to courtroom.

How it works

Ring Cameras

From doorbell cameras to floodlights, Ring devices record digital evidence and store it securely in the cloud. This evidence can make the difference in criminal investigations.

Axon Evidence

A leader in Digital Evidence Management Systems (DEMS), Axon Evidence securely stores digital evidence from countless sources and maintains an audit trail from Capture to Courtroom.

The Open Request Portal

Put simply, the portal connects DEMS with residential smart cameras. Requests are made, tracked and logged inside the Open Request Portal, providing transparency to the community.

Step 1

Investigators create a “Residential request” through Axon Evidence.

Step 2

Axon Evidence forwards the evidence request to the new Open Request Portal and then, once validated, the request is sent to community members in the relevant locale. The local community members receive a notification via their Neighbors app, requesting evidence.

Step 3

Community members can choose to share or to ignore the request. If they are willing to respond, then they can select and share their own footage from the timespan of the request.

Step 4

Any videos shared by the community members are transferred directly to Axon Evidence - maintaining a tamper-proof chain of custody that helps protect truth.

Benefits

This new version allows agencies to send requests for assistance directly to Ring doorbell owners from Axon Evidence. Shared Video files are sent directly to Axon Evidence, simplifying the capture process and ensuring the original, unaltered file is saved in your digital evidence management system.

In addition, all requests go through the Open Request Portal, which provides a layer of accountability and helps build public trust during investigations.
